About NEMO U7

NEMO University, or NEMO U, is the national conference of the NEMO Network. Held every 2 years (or so), the focus of the conference is on providing opportunities for NEMO program leaders, partners, funders and friends to network with one another, share successful approaches and learn about new technologies and techniques.

Beyond the Network

For our seventh conference (U007), we are changing things up a little bit. We are expanding the audience beyond just educators who are part of the NEMO Network, to anyone in the Sea Grant, USDA, NERRs or other outreach education networks who is working or interesting in working with local land use officials on water quality and other natural resource issues.

3 for 1

As luck would have it, U007 may provide an opportunity for you to participate in other, related events. In addition to NEMO U, Sea Grant’s Working Waterways and Waterfronts Symposium is being held the same week (September 27-30, 2010) in Portland, Maine. That conference seeks to increase awareness of the economic, social, cultural, and environmental values of waterfronts, and the important role of water-dependent uses in sustainable coastal communities. Further, the Sea Grant Sustainable Coastal Communities Network is co-locating their national meeting with NEMO U for the first time. With similar goals and approaches to NEMO programs, we anticipation and welcome the cross fertilization of people and ideas between the 3 events. Where else can you get so much bang for your limited travel bucks?

Who Should Come?

NEMO U is the place for NEMO educators and potential NEMO educators from across the country to gather, network, share/steal resources and ideas, learn, discuss, and have fun. However, we recognize that NEMO programs are not the only ones working with communities on connecting land use decisions with water quality and natural resource protection. So in an effort to help facilitate collaboration between networks, we are inviting outreach educators from the USDA Water Quality, NOAA Sea Grant, and NOAA NERRS networks to attend. The only requirements are that you come armed with:

  • An interest in conducting programs focusing on land use & water quality, and

  • An interest in working with communities & more specifically, land use decision makers

Comments from Past Attendees

“The Hub has created an atmosphere different from most conference/workshops I've ever attended. Positive atmosphere of sharing ideas and information, rather than the typical conference atmosphere of showing off your work.”
