Beyond Local Impacts
NEMO educational programs are tightly focused on helping local officials make better decisions regarding land use in their communities. Thus, the variety of local impacts already covered—to community plans, regulations, local practices and policies and the landscape—are the primary objectives of any NEMO effort. Nevertheless, NEMO programs have often had additional impacts in the form of changes to statewide policies and practices, and state and national recognition.
Arizona
The AZ Department of Environmental Quality uses AZ NEMO’s Watershed-Based Planning documents to rank and prioritize locations across the state for Clean Water Act Nonpoint Source Pollution Program (Section 319) funding. The documents use GIS hydrologic modeling (i.e., Automated Geospatial Watershed Assessment Method - AGWA) to model watershed response to rainfall events - the ranking and prioritization of funding is based on that modeling.
The NEMO video, "Stormwater Management from a Watershed Perspective: Extreme Western Climates," produced in partnership with the University of Washington, has won numerous awards, including AEGIS Film and Video Production Award: 2007 Finalist; HERMES Creative Awards - 2007 Gold Winner; The Videographer Awards - 2007 Honorable Mention; The Telly Awards - 2007 Bronze Winner.

CT NEMO won the 2006 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Renewable Natural Resources Foundation in D.C. for its publication Putting Communities in Charge, which details the on-the-ground actions that CT municipalities have taken after working with NEMO.
CT NEMO conducted a project to evaluate options for statewide buildout analyses for the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management (OPM), in partnership with the Central Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments. The study compared the results of buildout techniques of differing degrees of sophistication and data needs. OPM then used the results to report to the State Legislature on the options for a statewide buildout program.

The DE NEMO-sponsored Stormwater Pond Maintenance Advisory Committee makes recommendations to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary to be included in a statewide regulatory update.
Indiana
Planning With POWER (IN NEMO) provides input and technical assistance to the Indiana Land Resources Council, appointed by the Governor to address land use issues across the state of Indiana. Also POWER provides assistance and technical support to the Indiana Land Use Consortium, a group of organizations, agencies, NGOs and nonprofits concerned about land use issues in Indiana and coordinates a state land use conference each year.
Minnesota
Northland NEMO’s multimedia Guide to Using Natural Resource Information in Local Decision Making has been honored with a Merit in Planning Award from the Minnesota Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
New Hampshire
The Institute for New Hampshire Studies at Plymouth State University independently reviewed the Natural Resources Outreach Coalition (NH NEMO) program. This included a review of NROC materials and presentations, interviews with the program’s partners, and a community survey. The Institute concluded that the program has energized local officials to address conservation and growth, enabled them to more effectively address land use and water quality issues, and is the most cost effective option for using available resources to effect land use.
Several towns NROC has worked with have won awards for their work. For example, Dover won a Gulf of Maine Visionary Award.
Nevada
NV NEMO won the Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals’ Silver Award for a Long Publication, for their set of Five NEMO Fact Sheets in 2005. The Fact Sheets also won the 2005 Award of Excellence from Communication Concepts 17th Annual Award Competition.
